I extend my sincerest gratitude to the 317,000 + voters of Hennepin County for electing me to Hennepin County’s District Court Judge Seat 9. Although I did not have an opponent on the ballot, I am, nevertheless, aware that you had a choice in voting for me. In the next six years, I will work hard to make thoughtful decisions, to uphold the law, and seek justice as I keep doing the humbling work of a district court judge in Hennepin County.
Also, campaigns are not won singlehandedly – I had the strong support of some amazing people and I extend my gratitude to the Citizens to Elect Judge Browne Steering Committee: Judith M. Rush – Chair, David Schooler – Honorary Chair, Martin J. Costelo – Treasurer, Toni Newborn and Andrea Brown for their support. Most importantly, I had the incredible support of my friends and family, and my wife, Kelly Browne. Thank you all.
I truly believe that the judiciary not only resolves disputes and administers justice but it is also able to reach people to empower change. I also believe the person standing before the court represents an opportunity to genuinely connect with an individual and to have a meaningful conversation that may transform their path in life. Lastly, I believe, as U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall did, that "the legal system can force open doors and sometimes even knock down walls but it cannot build bridges. That job belongs to you and me."
This past election (November 8, 2016) has placed squarely on my shoulders the responsibility to serve humbly, to act with compassion and to build the bridges Justice Marshall referenced. Although there may be plenty of challenges ahead, I promise to put forth my best work every day to build a more just, fair and safe community for us all.
